Configure Jira for a Closed Network

This is the procedure to follow when Jira is behind a firewall and not accessible via the open internet.
CAUTION:

Before setting up Jira, check your project type and issue types.

  • Exporting to "next-gen" projects on Jira Cloud is not currently supported. Coverity on Polaris Jira integration is able to export issues to Jira Cloud only when the project type is "classic."
  • The issue type must be "Task" when exporting an issue to Jira. If "Task" is not available as an issue type, the export will fail.
  • When exporting tasks to Jira, Coverity on Polaris includes the following fields:
    • Summary
    • Description
    And the following system attributes:
    • Reporter name (Exported with an empty value, which Jira sets to the name of the user who configured the Coverity on Polaris-Jira integration)
    • Project id
    • Issue type
    If other fields or attributes are required by your Jira project, the export will fail.
This task has three parts.
  • Configure Coverity on Polaris with information about the Jira instance
  • Configure the plug-in using your Jira instance
  • Return to Coverity on Polaris to test and finalize the configuration
  1. In Coverity on Polaris, navigate to MyOrganization.
  2. Select Integrations.
  3. Click Add Jira Integration

  4. In the Jira integration wizard, use the pulldown menu to choose Jira Data Center (Closed Network). Then click Next.

  5. In the text box on the second tab of the wizard, enter the URL of your Jira instance.

  6. Starting with Coverity on Polaris in a new browser tab, create an access token.
    For instructions to create the token, see Generating an Access Token.
    Note: The Coverity on Polaris user setting up the integration must have the project administrator role for any Coverity on Polaris projects to be integrated with Jira.
  7. Download the Coverity on Polaris Jira Plugin from the Coverity on Polaris Downloads page.
  8. In a new browser tab, sign in as an administrator to the Jira instance you are integrating with Coverity on Polaris.
    Note: Once the Coverity on Polaris Jira Plugin is configured, Jira issues are exported from Coverity on Polaris as if by the Jira admin user who configured the integration. You can use a system or service account to set up the integration.
  9. Navigate to Settings > Manage Apps.
  10. Choose Manage Apps in the left-hand navigation.
  11. Choose Upload App and upload the Coverity on Polaris Jira Plugin jarfile that you downloaded from Coverity on Polaris.
  12. After the upload is complete, select Coverity on Polaris Software Integrity Platform from the User Installed Apps. Then click Configure.
  13. Use text fields to enter your Coverity on Polaris URL and Coverity on Polaris Access Token, then click Save.
  14. Back in the Coverity on Polaris Jira Integration Set Up window, click Next.
  15. The Jira integration process is complete.
    Note: Users cannot export issues to Jira until a Jira project is chosen within their Coverity on Polaris project. For that, see the topic called "Configure Jira Exports for a Project."
